Eaton uses 9-run second to topple Preble Shawnee

EATON — Eaton’s baseball team took advantage of 10 walks by Preble Shawnee pitching and three Arrow errors to claim a 14-2 run-rule win in 5 innings on Monday, April 1.

The Eagles scored nine runs in the second inning to overcome a 2-1 first inning deficit to take control of the game.

Eaton added four more runs in the third to secure the win.

With the win, Eaton improved to 3-1, while Shawnee fell to 0-5 with the loss.

Shawnee scored twice in the top of the first as Lane Lovely led off the game with a hit and later scored to put his team up 1-0. Colton Strong also had a hit and scored in the first.

After scoring a run in the bottom of the first, Eaton took advantage of several walks and a couple of Shawnee errors to score nine runs in the second.

Trevor Davis went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Dillon Jerdon added a hit, an RBI and scored twice. Gavin Winings had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run. Xavier Mathews added a hit and scored twice. Wes Butler added a double, walked twice and scored two runs.

Davis pitched the first four innings allowing two runs, while striking out six to get the win. Ian Ruebush tossed the last inning and struck out two.

Eaton was scheduled to play at Arcanum on Friday and visit Loveland on Saturday. The Eagles will travel to Oakwood on Wednesday, April 10.

Shawnee was scheduled to play Franklin-Monroe on Thursday, April 4. They are scheduled to play at Fenwick on Saturday, April 6. The Arrows are set to visit National Trail on Tuesday, April 9.
