National Trail bounces back to defeat Fairlawn

SIDNEY — After suffering a 7-1 home loss to Bradford on Friday, National Trail’s varsity baseball team bounced back with a 3-0 victory Saturday over Fairlawn.

Sophomore Braylon Coffey earned the victory on the mound. He struck out 12, walked two, allowed three hits with two walks over seven innings to record the shutout.

The Blazers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Cooper Smith hit a lead off single to left and reached second on the throw back to the infield. Smith stole third and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Coffey.

National Trail added two more runs in the top of the fifth. With two outs Cooper Lee reached first on a fielding error at third. Lee advanced to second and third on a passed ball. Chase Ruebush singled to bring Lee home.

Ruebush stole second and third and scored on a single to right by Kellen Laird. Laird went two for four with an RBI. Ruebush went one for four with one run and one RBI. Smith was one for four with one run. Andrew Hamm went one for three.

Jamison Watts and Coffey each drew a walk. Ruebush and Watts stole three bases, Hamm and Laird stole two while Coffey, Smith, and Gavin Vance had one steal.
