Northmont scores late to defeat Wayne

HUBER HEIGHTS — Jamir Ross hit a leadoff single in the top of the seventh inning and scored on three consecutive errors on the throw back to infield to lead Northmont to a 6-5 victory over Wayne.

The Thunderbolts took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Brady Lupton drew a walk, advanced to second on an error by the first baseman on a pickoff attempt then stole third base. Lupton scored on a wild pitch.

Wayne tied the game in the bottom of the first. Xavier Hargrave doubled to center. Michael Brents singled to right and a fielding error enabled Hargrave to score.

Northmont took a two run lead in the top of the third. Lupton drew a walk and stole second. Drake Sauber got hit by a pitch. Lupton stole third and Sauber stole second. Jacob Beck singled to center to score Lupton and Sauber.

The Thunderbolts added two more runs in the top of the fourth. Austin Welch hit a lead off single and stole second. Chase Fuduloff drew a walk. Joey Tobe came in to pitch and Welch advanced to third and Fuduloff to second on a passed ball.

Lupton drew a walk to load the bases. Sauber hit a hard ground ball to left to score Welch and Fuduloff.

Wayne answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Braylon Byrd singled and Peyton Tengesdahl got hit by a pitch. Kory Reigle also got hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Byrd scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Andrew Christen with Tengesdahl advancing to third. An infield error on a ground ball by Peyton Anderson allowed Tengesdahl to score.

Wayne tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Hargrave drew a walk but was out a second when Joey Tobe hit into a fielder’s choice. Michael Brents singled on a hard ground ball to right with Tobe advancing to second.

Byrd singled to right to score Tobe. Brents scored on an error to tie the game at five before Ross scored in the top of the seventh to give Northmont the win.

Sauber earned the victory for Northmont. He allowed no hits and no runs on one-third of an inning.

Peyton Tengesdahl took the loss for Wayne. He pitched two and two-thirds innings, surrendered five runs on three hits, with five walks and five strike outs.

Jack Siehl started on the mound for Northmont. He allowed three hits and three runs (one earned) in four innings with no walks and three strike outs. Nate Ferrel pitched one inning, allowed two runs (one earned), with one walk.

Friday the Thunderbolts lost 3-2 in eight innings at Centerville and then lost a doubleheader Saturday at Versailles by scores of 9-8 and 9-7.

Northmont is now 5-11 overall.
