BROOKVILLE — Are you concerned about your internet safety? Just what is phishing, malware and/or scams?

Information Services Assistant Chris Blackford will discuss some common online dangers and tips to avoid them. The program is scheduled for Friday, May 10, from 10-11 a.m. in the library’s community room, 120 Blue Pride Drive, Brookville.

“I’ll teach attendees what phishing, malware, and other common online threats are, what the differences between them are, and how to avoid the danger. There are a wide variety of scams online, but if they learn the commonalities behind these different groups of scams, then maybe it’ll help them see the threats before falling victim to them,” Blackford said.

“These scams can wipe out bank accounts, relinquish control of computers, or even result in identity theft. With a careful eye and some knowledge, the risk can be greatly reduced,” he continued. “I hope folks can leave with a greater understanding of the common tactics in all scams, at the very least. I do hope attendees leave with a greater confidence in their ability to browse the internet safely.”

Spaces are limited and registration is required. Register in advance under the Upcoming Events Brookville Branch tab online at daytonmetrolibrary.org, by calling 937-463-2665 or at the library.
