Northmont girls 7th, boys 9th at Firebird Invite

KETTERING — The Northmont girls track team placed 7th out of 17 teams while the boys placed 9th out of 22 teams at the annual Fairmont Firebird Invitational held Thursday and Friday.

Fort Loramie took 1st place in the girls competition with 135 points. The Lady Bolts scored 40 to earn 7th. Beavercreek won the boys competition with 103 points. Northmont tallied 41.50 to earn 9th.

Thursday featured finals in seven events including the 2,000 meter steeplechase, the 4×800 relay, boys shot put, girls discus, girls high jump, boys long jump and the girls pole vault.

Lilia Lopez finished 11th in the 2,000 steeplechase in nine minutes, 46.02 seconds (9:46.02). Lucy Marketos of Kings took 1st in 7:35.46. Meet record 7:10.30, Sydney Leiher of Beavercreek (2012).

The Lady Bolts placed 5th in 4×800 relay (A. Brown, Makenna Long, Briana Pressel, Jazlen Simpson) in 10:34.24. Fort Loramie took 1st in 9:48.65. Meet record Archbishop Alter 9:25.96 (2009).

Logan Fast just missed placing in the discus, finishing 9th at 98 feet, 3 inches. Josie Kleinhenz took 1st at 11 feet, 7 inches. Meet record 137 feet, 9 inches, Kenese Arington of Xenia (1998).

Jenna Hall placed 2nd in the high jump at 5 feet. Janelle Siegel of Fort Loramie was 1st at 5 feet with fewer fouls. Meet record 5 feet, 6 inches, Sheri Lawler of Beavercreek (2007).

Friday results

Victoria Odole placed 2nd in the 100 meter dash in 12.63 seconds behind Emma Goins (12.48) of Little Miami. Meet record 11.80, Maria Moss, Springfield North (1995).

Boys results

Charlie Wendt finished 21st in the steeplechase in 8:10.91. Samuel Darmanie of Springboro was 1st in 6:04.89 to set a new record. Ben Ewert (Beavercreek) set the previous record of 6:14.17 in 2014.

The Thunderbolts placed 5th in the 4×800 relay in 8:44.64. Butler was 1st in 8:15.42. Meet record 7:56.86, Dayton Christian (2007).

Kalib Haynesworth placed 5th in the 100 meter dash in 11.43 seconds and Jonathan Warren was 7th in 11.70. Jordan Gross of Butler was 1st in 10.91. Meet record 10.87, Brandon Saine, Piqua (2005).

The Thunderbolts placed 4th in the 4×200 relay in 1:31.71. Beavercreek was 1st in 1:28.87 to set a new meet record previously set in 2007 by Lakota West (1:29.70).

The 1600 meter run saw three runners break the old meet record of 4:21.30 set in 2005 by Nik Schweikert of Beavercreek. Kasem Kaheal of Miamisburg took 1st place in 4:17.31. Daron Porter of Northmont was 2nd in 4:19.79 and Andrew Wilcox of Monroe was third at 4:20.44.

Northmont placed 5th in the 4×100 relay in 44.10 seconds. The top two teams shattered the old meet record of 43.10 set by Xenia in 1993. Fairmont was 1st in 42.78 and Butler 2nd at 42.98.

Javier Pfeiler finished 32nd in the 800 meter run in 2:14.77. Jacob Rutledge was 38th (2:17.79) and Grant Mergler 41st (2:18.53). Jackson Davis of Beavercreek took 1st in 1:56.78. Meet record 1:54.71, Danny Naff, Butler (2008).
