North’s Landis, Barnes qualify for regionals

PIQUA — Tri-County North is sending two athletes to the regional track meet after they placed among the top four during the Piqua Division III district meet last week.

The district meet was held Tuesday, May 16 and Saturday, May 20 at Piqua High School.

Jonathan Landis won the pole vault, clearing 13-6. Landis and Franklin-Monroe’s Nate Good each cleared 13-6 before missing all three attempts at 14-0.

Landis won due to not missing until the 14-0 mark, while Good had missed two attempts at lower heights.

The good fortune continued for high jumper Clint Barnes. He tied for fourth at 5-11 then won a jump off to secure the final regional spot.

Colt Barnes placed in two events but did not qualify. He finished in sixth place in both the 110 and 300 hurdles.

On the girls’ side, Madison Jeffers narrowly missed moving on. She tied for fourth in the high jump but lost out on qualifying spot in a jump off.

As a team, North’s boys tallied 20.5 points to finish 10th, while the girls scored 4.5 points and finished 15th.

The regional meet will be held Wednesday, May 24 and Friday, May 26. Field events are scheduled to begin on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. with running events slated for 6 p.m. Landis will compete on Wednesday, while Barnes will compete on Friday. Friday’s field events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and running events are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
