EATON — Parker Hannifin Tube Fittings Division presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to the City of Trotwood for tornado relief on Friday, July 26. The money was raised from a corporate contest, but the team wanted the money to make a difference in the community.
Beth Byrd, PCG VP of Operations, started by stating her appreciation of the team for their hard work and achievements.
“The first thing I wanted to do was to express my gratitude for all your hard work, all your participation, all the problem solving events, all the High Performance Team star points, because it is really critical to what we do as team members taking care of each other, taking care of customers, growing, and seeing the financial returns,” she said. “Then, as we take a step back, we are here to celebrate the North American High Performance Team Winners for the region.
“As we take a look at the contest that the team was participating in, you were up against seven divisions. Each team turned in their participation and what they thought was the best High Performance Team for their division. We listened to all those presentations, you had a panel listening to you, we were judging based on what does it do for engaging team members, does it have the brake level business focus, did we see returns, did we see engagement – we are really focused on criteria like that.
“As we went through presentations, it was really clear that your team in Eaton stood out. This is really remarkable. What we didn’t expect was such a large team. To see this many team members engaged in this process, it was really remarkable.”
Byrd also talked about the choice to donate the contest winnings, instead of spending them on a party or something else.
“You have a sense of gratitude and a sense of community that is very humbling, to take that money and donate it to people in need. The corporation has heard about this and they are very pleased and very proud of such a wonderful team. This is what represents Parker Hannifin – it is communities like this and team members like yourselves – who are selfless and find ways to serve your community – that really make a difference,” she said.
They presented the check to Trotwood Mayor Mary McDonald and Vice Mayor Bettye Gales. McDonald presented a proclamation to the Tube Fittings Division.
“I want to say thank you, to each and every one of you. I heard the story of what you have been doing. We were so excited to be considered. Our city has gone through much devastation, we had over 2,000 structures that were damaged, with over 300 having to be totally demolished. There are lots of citizens who are still in hotels and living places that are not their homes. We are going to be looking at a two to three year recovery here in the City of Trotwood,” McDonald said.
“To have you all think about us at this particular time as we go through this, little that you know, we are already joined together as a family, because we are all a part of the 43rd District. Trotwood and Eaton are in a district together. I want to let you know how deeply we appreciate you.”
