COLUMBUS — Four area boys wrestlers placed at the 86th annual OHSAA state tournament, which was held Friday-Sunday, March 10-12, at the Schottenstein Center.

Preble Shawnee’s Brayden Doran ended a 37-yard drought for the Arrows wrestling team by reaching a state championship match at the 86th annual OHSAA Boys State Tournament on Sunday, March 12.

Doran, a senior, entered the tournament with a 36-4 record and won his first three matches before falling in the final of the 157-pound weight class to LaGrange Keystone’s Tristin Greene, 13-3, to finish the season as the Division III state runner-up.

Greene was a fourth-place finisher at 138 pounds in Division II last season.

Current Shawnee assistant coach Brian Carter, who won a state title in 1986, was the last Arrow to reach a finals match. Carter was also a state runner-up in 1985.

Doran beat Tristan McKibben of Rootstown 6-3 in the first round on Friday, March 10.

In the quarterfinals, Doran scored a 7-2 win over Kasen Wellman of Ayersville.

In the semifinals, Doran defeated Ayden King of Barnsville 5-3.

Doran was one of two Arrows to place at state, with 175-pound junior Riley Stevenson placing seventh, marking the first time since 1985 Shawnee had two wrestlers place at the state tournament.

Joining Doran and Stevenson at state was sophomore Nolan Earles, marking what is believed to be the first-time in program history to have three wrestlers compete at state in the same season.

Stevenson lost his opening round match 7-0 to Hayden Dickman of Archbold.

In his first consolation match, Stevenson defeated Nels VanGundy of Elgin, 4-0. He then defeated Bryce Wickline of Westfall 1-0 before falling 2-0 to Elmwood’s Cannon Endicott. Stevenson closed out the tournament with a 5-0 win over Dayton Christian’s Austin Sellars to earn seventh place.

Earls went 1-0 on the weekend.

Brookville sent three to state as well with two reaching the podium and the other making the top 12.

Luke Dolan led the way for the Blue Devils, placing 5th at 150 pounds. The junior opened the tournament with a 13-3 win over Josh Brown of Berkshire.

In the quarterfinals, dropped a tough 6-5 decision to Jace Margraf of Mohawk. In the first consolation round, Dolan beat Kaiden Luikart of Elgin, 4-0, then beat Montana Pierce of McComb 13-2.

In the consolation semis, Dolan lost 10-2 to Kohen Horvath of Milan Edison, before closing out the tournament with a 3-1 win over Margraf to finish fifth.

Blue Devil senior Bronson Stacy closed out his high school career with a seventh place finish in the 215-pound division.

After dropping his first match 13-2 to Dylan Aeschliman of Archbold, Stacy then won his next two matches to earn a spot on the podium.

Stacy defeated Zach Babiczuk of Malvern 4-0 in the first round of consolation matches, then he beat Will Fox of Coldwater, 9-2, to reach the top eight.

Stacy then suffered a 4-1 setback to Gavin Gillig of Liberty-Benton before scoring a 3-0 decision over Caleb Cunningham of Crestview to finish seventh.
