EATON — What Preble County authorities called a “significant drug seizure” occurred following a traffic stop on Interstate 70 last week.

On Monday, Oct. 23, at approximately 10:19 a.m., Preble County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a grey Toyota minivan on eastbound I-70 for traffic violations. During the contact with the driver, criminal indicators were present and a K-9 unit from Eaton Police Division responded to the stop. K-9 Rossi alerted to the vehicle, according to a PCSO press release.

During a probable cause search of the vehicle, approximately 246 pounds of packaged marijuana and approximately four pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, which is a hallucinogen, were located, according to the release. “Total estimated street value of the drugs is estimated at $750,000,” it noted.

During the investigation, the driver stated that he was traveling from Texas to North Carolina to sell the drugs, officials said.

Mustafa Totakhail, 47, of Hayward, California, was arrested and lodged in the Preble County Jail. He was formally charged in Eaton Municipal Court with offenses including aggravated trafficking in drugs, a first degree felony; aggravated possession of drugs, a first degree felony; possession of marijuana, a second degree felony; trafficking in marijuana, a second degree felony and possessing criminal tools, a fifth degree felony.

Totakhail remained in the Preble County Jail at press time.
