Lady Devils suffer pair of losses

OAKWOOD — Brookville’s girls basketball suffered back-to-back losses 46-32 at Monroe on Wednesday and 60-39 Saturday at Oakwood.

Ashlee Haupt scored 18 against Monroe but was the only Lady Devil to hit double figures. The Fighting Hornets controlled the boards snaring 29 rebounds to 12 for Brookville.

Paityn Corthell paced the Monroe attack with 19 points while Ryan Buskirk tossed in 13 with 10 rebounds and Saffron Weidner had 11 points.

The game was tied nine-all at the end of the first quarter with Monroe holding a 25-23 advantage at the half. The Fighting Hornets scored 13 in the third quarter to take a 38-29 lead and then limited Brookville to three points in the fourth quarter to earn the 14 point win.

Monroe improved to 3-3 while Brookville slipped to 2-4 overall.

Saturday the Lady Devils offense struggled at Oakwood with no player scoring in double figures while the Lumberjills had three score more than 10. Ashley Bowden had 19, Caroline Roelle had 18, and Evelyn Connor tallied 17 points and snared 11 rebounds.

Oakwood had 34 rebounds while Brookville had 22. The most telling statistic was the 17 steals the Lumberjills had to disrupt the Lady Devils offense.

With the game tied at the end of the first quarter, Oakwood outscored Brookville 23-9 in the second stanza to build a 31-17 advantage at halftime and never looked back.

The Lumberjills shot 42.6 percent from the floor and hit 64 percent of their free throws converting 16 of 25. The Lady Devils shot 28.6 percent from the floor and converted nine of 14 from the charity stripe (64.3 percent).

Oakwood improved to 5-3 overall and to 4-2 in Southwestern Buckeye League play while Brookville fell to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in SWBL play.
