Tuesday, Jan. 9, Clayton 240000033: A resident of Cheri Lynne Drive reported fraud. While using his computer a pop-up window appeared stating there was a virus on his computer and that he needed to call the phone number listed. The resident called and spoke to a man with an accent who stated his personal information was compromised and that he needed to wire $97,400 to Hong Kong. The resident contacted Wright-Patt Credit Union, which took the money out of his account but placed a 24 hour hold on the funds. Wright-Patt’s fraud unit called the resident and told him the money was being put back into his account because the wire transfer was a fraud. He was also instructed to contact the police. The resident is unsure if he provided the suspect with his personal information. Norton Antivirus is reformatting the resident’s computer as a result of the attempted fraud.

Wednesday, Jan. 10, Clayton 24000036: Criminal damaging was reported at North Main Animal Clinic. The business had surveillance footage of man arriving at 3 a.m. who damaged signs on the wall outside. The man pulled three signs off the wall that had veterinarian’s names on them. The male approached the business with a dog and banged on the side door. He began pulling the signs off the wall and at one point is seen brandishing a gun. The business posted images of the man on its Facebook page and someone contacted the business, identified the suspect and provided his address. The business learned that the suspect has mental issues and does own weapons. Clayton contacted Dayton Police and requested that an officer go to the suspect’s last known address to obtain a phone number Clayton could use to contact him about the incident. Dayton advised it had several dealings with the suspect in the past and that he is spiraling out of control and has made threats in the past to use weapons. Dayton Police were unable to make contact with the male. Since the male was positively identified, North Main Animal Clinic wished to pursue charges against the suspect. Charges were forwarded to Vandalia Municipal Court for review along with video footage of the incident.
