CENTERVILLE — B.J. Hatcher scored 20 and Javen Vaughn 16 points Friday to help Northmont pull off a 59-54 upset victory over first place Centerville.

It was the first time Northmont defeated Centerville since Jan. 15, 2016 when the Thunderbolts posted a 55-44 victory.

The Thunderbolts jumped out to a 14-10 first quarter lead and then outscored the Elks 18-4 in the second quarter to take a 32-14 halftime lead, enough to hold-off a furious second half Centerville rally.

The Elks outscored the Thunderbolts 21-10 in the third stanza and 19-17 in the final frame but it wasn’t enough as Northmont held on for the five point victory.

Northmont snared 18 defensive rebounds to limit the Elks’ second chance shots.

The Thunderbolts shot a blistering 70 percent from the field hitting 21 of 30 shot attempts and converted 15 of 26 from the foul line (57.7 percent).

The Elks shot 40.5 percent (17-42) from the field and went 15-20 from the charity stripe (75 percent). Baboucarr Njie led the Elks with 22 points while Jonathan Powell tallied 15 and Eli Greenberg 11.
