Overdose leads to father’s arrest

EATON — The investigation into a drug overdose death 970 South Barron Street in Eaton has led to the arrest of a New Lebanon resident on drug and manslaughter charges.

According to Eaton Police Chief Steve Hurd, on July 10, 2023, at 12:55 p.m., Eaton Police officers were dispatched to 970 South Barron Street, apartment #2, on a report of a possible drug overdose.

“Kimberly Means, 30 years of age and an Eaton resident, was found deceased inside of the apartment,” Hurd said in a press release on Wednesday, Feb. 7. “Kimberly Means was also pregnant at this time.”

According to Hurd, after an extensive investigation by Eaton Police Detective Aaron Melling, the Preble County Prosecutors Office indicted Steven Means, 62 years of age, a resident of New Lebanon, and the father of Kimberly Means, on charges including: two counts of involuntary manslaughter; corrupting another with drugs; four counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, and two counts of trafficking in heroin.

Steven Means was arrested on a warrant for the charges on Tuesday, Feb.6, and was currently being housed at the Preble County Jail at press time.
