BROOKVILLE — The first season under coach Josh Kummer heads into postseason play with a record of eight wins and 14 losses after the Lady Devils dropped two games last week.

Brookville dropped a heartbreaker to Tri-County North 40-39 and then played very well before being edged by Madison 37-32 to close out the regular season.

The game with Madison was the last regular season game for coach Brian McGuire, who is retiring after the season. McGuire has spent over 30 years coaching basketball on both the boys and girl’s benches in his career.

The game with North saw the Panthers edge Brookville when Gracie Hemp broke a 39-39 tie with a free throw with 40 seconds left in the game. That would prove to be the winning margin.

The quarter scores were 12-10 Brookville, 17-16 North, 28 all after three, and the final of 40-39. North scored nine of the first 11 points in the final frame and led 37-30.

Brookville battled back and eventually tied it at 39. However, the Blue Devils could not find the range in the final minute despite several open shots.

North won because the Panthers shot the ball better than Brookville. TCN made 12 of 31 shots for 39 percent while Brookville made only 13 of 68 tries for 19 percent. That included five of 35 from three-point range for 14 percent.

Brookville had 23 steals and 37 rebounds. The other difference was foul shooting. North made 14 of 23 charity shots. Brookville was only eight of 20 from the foul line.

Scoring for North show Hannah Webster with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Webster has now set the single season and career record for blocked shots. Bella Cherry added 12 points, six assists, five steals, and five rebounds. Nani Garcia added eight points, Gracie Hemp scored three points and Jordan Pinion snagged eight rebounds.

Brookville got 21 points from Ashlee Haupt. Haupt also had eight steals in the game. Sara Carr added six points and six rebounds. Ellie Dafler scored four points and snagged seven boards.

Abi Stanoikovich had three points and three rebounds. Hunter Gardner tallied three points, six rebounds, and seven steals. Megan Luebke had two points and seven rebounds. Jordyn Oliver did not score but grabbed six rebounds.

The Lady Devils went to Madison and battled a much more talented team giving the Mohawks everything they could handle on Saturday.

Madison pulled away in the final minute to win the game 37-32. The quarter scores were nine-eight Madison, 17-14 Mohawks at the half, tied at 23 after three periods and the final of 37-32 Madison.

It appeared Brookville had tied the game on a free throw by Jordyn Oliver at 33 with just over a minute left in the game. However, Brookville was called for a lane violation wiping out the point. Madison would then make the final four points of the game from the foul line to win 37-32.

The Mohawks shot 44 percent from the field on 14 of 32 shooting. Brookville was 30.6 percent from the field on 11 of 36. The Blue Devils were five of 15 from behind the arc. Brookville was also only five of 13 from the foul line. The Blue Devils are 58.5 percent shooting from the foul line on the season.

For Madison, Kylie Wells had 23 points and 11 rebounds. Emily Webb added nine points.

Brookville was led by freshman Megan Luebke with a career high 15 points. Luebke made a career high four shots from three-point range and had four rebounds and four steals. Ashlee Haupt added ten points. Jordyn Oliver scored two points and snagged three rebounds. Hunter Gardner had two points and four rebounds. Alysaa Lackey scored two points and had four steals. Ellie Dafler had one point and two rebounds. Sara Carr grabbed three rebounds.

This season compared to last year shows Brookville has scored more points, had more assists, more steals, more blocked shots, and less turnovers.

Brookville is 8-14 on the season and will play in the tournament on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against Dayton Christian. The game will be played at Covington. Brookvillesports.com will broadcast the game beginning at 3:15 p.m.
