JAMESTOWN — Eaton’s girls wrestling team dominated the first-ever girls pre-regional tournament on Sunday, Feb. 25, at Greeneview High School, by winning three individual championships and qualifying all 11 wrestlers to the regional tournament.

The Eagles scored 196 points to easily top the 24-team field. Sycamore was second with 112 points, while Brookville, with two individual champions, was third with 93.5 points. Tri-County North finished 10th with 30 points.

The top four in each weight class qualified for the upcoming regional tournament to be held Sunday, March 3 at Harrison High School. The top four at the regional tournament will qualify for the state tournament to be held Friday-Sunday, March 8-10 at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University.

“They have really worked this season and I feel like it shows,” Eaton coach Mark Silvers said. “When the girls are complimented by other coaches, officials and parents from other teams it confirms that not only do we have good athletes, we have good kids in our program. Going into the meet I felt like we could get a lot of girls to the regional tournament. But all 11? I needed to get a lottery ticket. They rose to the occasion and wrestled well and supported each other well.”

For Eaton, freshman Maycee Adams, the No. 2 seed, was the first champion winning the 105-pound weight class by pin over top-seeded Mia Skinner of Wilmington in 1:27.

Freshman Marlee Trantanella was Eaton’s second champion, winning the 120 division with a pin of Olivia Friend of Piqua in 1:57.

Rounding out the Eagles champions was junior Caroline Klawon, who won the 145 division.

Josie Elierman finished second at 115.

Peyton Bradham finished fourth at 100 pounds. Sara Abner finished third at 125.

Kyeleigh Gifford was the runner-up at 130.

Abbie Schmidt, the No. 3 seed, finished second at 135.

“Our champions, Maycee Adams, Marlee Trantanella and Caroline Klawon all wrestled up to their potential. Our runners-up, Josie Eilerman, Kyeleigh Gifford and Abbie Schmidt all wrestled well, just ran into some tough girls,” Silvers said.

Alli Davis placed third at 140.

Emma Gebhart finished third at 155 and Brenna Grassman finished fourth at 235.

“Now we advance to the regional. They are all tough here,” Silvers said. (The girls) will need to bring their A game. It’s going to be a fun day next Sunday.”

For Brookville, senior Molly Luebke took home the 110 title with a pin of Lexie Burns of McClain in 2:44. Lilliana Wison finished third at 105.

Senior Rita Carey won all three of her matches by pin to win the 140 division.

Lily Zimmerlin was third at 145.

Cabryn Simonds was fifth at 120.

Kylee Jones placed third at 135.

For Tri-County North, Madison Jeffers finished second at 155 and Haylee Bloom was fifth at 135.
