Landon McCargish qualified for district by placing 1st in the 144 pound weight class at the Division I sectional at Centerville.
CENTERVILLE — Northmont scored 138 points to place 5th out of 15 teams at the boys Division I wrestling sectional Saturday at Centerville High School.
Centerville took 1st with 225.5 points, Miamisburg 2nd with 213.5, Fairmont 3rd with 202.0, and Beavercreek 4th with 178.5.
The Thunderbolts had eight wrestlers place with half advancing to the district tournament. Only the top four in each weight class advanced to district, which will be held at Trent Arena in Kettering beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, March 1 and continuing Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m.
Fifth place finishers qualified to district in case they need to fill in at that weight.
Noah Allen took 1st place at 132 pounds by scoring a 3-1 decision over Shakhin Iskandar of Centerville in the title bout. Allen, a senior (14-11), will face sophomore Henry Smyth of Harrison in the opening round at district.
Landon McCargish placed 1st at 144 by pinning Arslan Bekirov of Centerville in 1:50 in the championship match. McCargish, a sophomore (27-5), will face sophomore Geronimo Thomas of Middletown in the first round at district.
Devin Jones took 2nd place at 190 losing by a fall (4:38) to John Moyer of Centerville. Jones, a junior (24-8), will battle sophomore Nick Lauter (35-10) of Lebanon in the district’s opening round.
Marcos Velasquez placed 3rd at 175 winning by a fall (1:40) over Cecil Piner of Xenia. Velasquez, a senior (32-8), will square off against junior Jordan Jackson (22-10) of Colerain in the first round at district.
Charlie Henson placed 5th at 285 winning by a fall (0:36) over Evan Hargraves of Stebbins.
Printiss Moore placed 6th at 113 losing by a fall (0:31) to Tristyn Kennedy of Springfield in the battle for 5th place.
Connor Slentz took 6th at 120 losing a close 6-5 decision to Chase Lindenmuth of Beavercreek.
Christian Moncrief was 6th at 215 losing by a fall (4:34) to Ridvan Nazirov of Centerville.
