EATON — A special program aimed at educating the public about the Constitution is coming to the Preble County Council on Aging Senior Center beginning Saturday, March 2.

Constitution Alive is being offered for free by the Preble County Patriots, led by Constitutional Coach Scott Robertson, at the Preble County Senior Center, 800 East St. Clair Street, Eaton, for six consecutive Saturdays beginning this Saturday, March 2. It will run through Saturday, April 6. Participants are asked to arrive early as each session will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m and end at 12:30 p.m. Programs topics include: week one, “Our Purpose and Approach;” week two, “The Seeds of Liberty;’ week three, The Congress; week four, The President and the Courts; week five, The Bill of Rights; week six, “The Duty of the Citizen.”

Registration is not required, and the public can attend all or any of the selected sessions.

“There is a growing concern among Americans about the erosion of our Constitutional rights,” PCP said in a press release announcing the program. “The best way that we can protect ourselves and our Constitution is to know it. We are fortunate here in Preble County that the Constitution Alive program is being offered for free to the public to educate our citizens about our American heritage and our founding documents. Over the decades, Americans have been bombarded with misinformation.

The release continued, “In addition, 90 percent of schools do not teach the Constitution, even though it was signed into law Dec. 8, 2004, by former President George W Bush who established Sept. 17 as Constitution Day. Only 25 percent of U.S. students reach the ‘proficient’ standard on the National Assessment Education Progress Civics Assessment. The result is that we have generations of Americans, government officials and representatives, who do not know and understand civics, our government, or our Constitution. Ronald Reagan once said, ‘Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it onto our children in the bloodstream. The only way that they can inherit the freedom we have known is if we fight for it, protect it, defend it, and then hand it to them with the well taught lessons of how they in their lifetime must do the same. And if you and don’t do this, then you and I may spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in America when men were free.’

“Americans, now more than ever, are seeking the truth about our nation’s history, PCP’s release concluded. “We have an opportunity here in Preble County to learn.”
